Editorial Reviews:

More than any other band, the Gipsy Kings are responsible for the renewed interest in gypsy music, and this is the album that broke them through to the international mainstream. Although their carefully crafted music is not "pure" gypsy, their impassioned performances create a window for the uninitiated into the deeper world of flamenco and other styles. If you're not a purist, the Gipsy Kings provide powerful, highly contagious, mostly acoustic music that may represent a new form of contemporary gypsy music for the masses; or you can view it as pure pop. This disc lays down their trademark mix of guitars, handclaps, and percussion over 12 varied tracks ranging from intense dance numbers to passionate love songs such as "Un Amor." Linking it all together are the throaty, emotional vocals, notably those of Nicolas Reyes, evoking the smoky campfires of his underprivileged brethren where this highly polished music originated. --Derek Rath

5 out of 5 stars OLEEEEEE!!!!   May 5, 2007

5 out of 5 stars Will take your breath away...   August 30, 2006

They are amazing. There are no words to describe just what an incredible talent the Gipsy Kings have. You get lost in the sound, it touches your soul, makes you weep and move. Check out Duende, high volume, close your eyes. It's spiritual it's so good. They have got to be the best guitar players...no the best band..on the planet.

5 out of 5 stars Have you ever been to Spain?   August 17, 2006

This album will make anyone who has ever seen Spain (in a postcard, photo album, or through their own eyes) be mentally reteleported- and if you had no idea that Spain is one of the most musical countries in Europe, you will now. To say that this is a great example of how the Spanish guitar should be played and how Spanish music should sound is an understatement! The guitar sounds like a person, an identity of its own and the male voices blend in harmonies that no other nation (except Spain) could concur. I was left in a state of awe the first time I heard it, and now (after MANY instances of replay) I get chills every time I hear "Un Amor", "Bamboleo", "Djobi Djoba", and "Faena". Even for a non-Spanish speaker this is a great album to own; anyone can easily identify with the rhythm and feel of each song. It is truly a musical masterpiece and one of the Gipsy King's best albums.

This CD is excellent. It makes for great party music and always puts me in such a great mood. Their remake of My Way (A Mi Manera) is excellent. This is a classic!

5 out of 5 stars Universally Appealing   March 15, 2004

This is the album that got me hooked. After you give it a listen, you won't care about categorizing it as Flamenco or whatever. This is hot-blooded, passionate music appealing to the same kind of music afficionado. Listen or dance or both, it's all good!
