| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com After his departure from the Temptations, Eddie Kendricks made some key records in the transition from the smooth soul of the early '70s into disco. This disc presents kickin' long versions of the essential "Keep on Truckin'," "Boogie Down," and "Girl You Need a Change of Mind" ("I'm for women's rights, I just want equal nights"), with Kendricks's voice floating confidently over funky tracks. A few other songs here don't measure up, but those three songs assure the post-Tempts Kendricks of his place in history, and tracks like "Goin' Up in Smoke" are fine period music. --Rickey Wright

A BLAST FROM THE PAST October 22, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
THE TEMPTATIONS WERE NEVER THE SAME AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF THEIR TWO "VOICES", EDDIE KENDRICKS AND DAVID RUFFIN. THIS CD FEATURES EDDIE'S SOLO OUTPUT FROM THE EARLY 70'S WHEN DISCO WAS MAKING ITS' BREAKTHROUGH. WHAT A VOICE! I COULD NEVER MAKE UP MY MIND WHO SANG THE BETTER FALSETTO, EDDIE KENDRICKS OR CURTIS MAYFIELD, BUT WHO CARES? THEY WERE BOTH AWESOME. SOME OF THE SONGS MAY BE JUST A LITTLE BIT TOO DISCO-ISH FOR MY TASTE, BUT YOU CAN NOT DENY THE TALENT AND PERFORMANCE OF THE MAN, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HEAR CLASSICS LIKE "BOOGIE DOWN BABY", "KEEP ON TRUCKIN", OR "GOING UP IN SMOKE". I ALSO HAVE THE "ULTIMATE COLLECTION" FROM DAVID RUFFIN, AND THAT ONE IS GOOD AS WELL.

This cd is priceless in my opinion. Every songs was spectacular. Eddie Kendricks has a voice to make you to get up and move or sit down and swoon. There will never be a voice like his; I think he has earned the title of a classic maestro. I would recommend this cd to anyone. It was great.

...there's more than a lil bit of disco brimmin up under this thang! you've been warned... but even at that, it's not flagrant gold-lame' disco, yaknow? definitely some of this sounds dated... but the diamonds hidden in this croaker sack more than make up for everythang... if you dig smokey robinson, isaac hayes or even old funkadelic, then this is definitely worth you investing your money in... this is something every grown man needs in his music collection... i couldnt do without it.
