The King of Chicago Smooth Soul November 16, 2008
Tyrone Davis was one of the greatest soul and blues singers of our time. No one can beg and groan like Tyrone did. Not even Keith Sweat (LOL)!! My late mother loved him so I grew up listening to his smooth vocals as a child and I still love his music even now in my 30's. People would often compare Tyrone Davis to Johnny Taylor (who I love as well). But to me Tyrone was in a whole different league. To this day I cannot think of anyone who comes close to sounding like him.
The production and arrangements of these tracks was when real instruments were used in soul music. Tyrone was one of pioneers who helped put the Chicago soul sound on the map. This collection is great. If you are a true fan you cannot go wrong with this purchase. Some of my favorites and they all are great are "I Had It All The Time", There It Is", I Wish It Was Me", Turning Point and Change Your Mind.
