There's still more from Ohio to be discovered! March 13, 2008 Awesome! I've been collecting old school funk for some years now. I didn't listen to this kinds of music when it was out but rather went back and researched to built up quite a collection. I pretty much thought I had all the major funk bands from that era. However, one day Sun popped up one day as a recommendation from Amazon. I read the reviews and found there were part of the Ohio Scene along with Ohio Players and Slave. After hearing the sound samples, I decided I should order the CD. I'm glad I did! It's a shame they didn't get near the fame of Ohio Players or Slave. The music is as funky, the playing is as good. I suppose they just didn't have enough big singles. If you like the bands from that scene, get this album!
Missed Gem August 14, 2007 I happen to know the Drummer and played "Sun" when his wife was at a trade show here and she nearly fell off the stage. She didn't think anyone even remembered Sun. Since I've been a DJ for over 30 years...it wasn't hard. With a sound like EW&F and Commodores, you'd think they would have shared more success than they did. Great tunes and very danceable. (even today) I play them quite often. This is a great CD to add to your "Betcha never heard THIS" disco collection.
Sun Shines On Me Today August 7, 2007 I was a young teen in the late 70's and blessed to have three older brothers that purchased music (albums and 45's) every week. They mail ordered their cloths from Flag Brothers and Bill The Hatter and had all the dance steps down thanks to the great venue we still know as Soul Train. In 1987 My College basketball coach and I were discussing great music that we both enjoyed growing up; he being closer to the age of my older brothers appreciated my knowledge of the True Funk Era! There was one album I could not recall that I loved but over time forgot the name of the band. I had only seen one Orange Album in my life and that Band was it. My coach remembered the album from his collection as well, but like my brothers copy his too was lost over time. I was ordering a Book today from Amazon and opened up my account to update my records and there it was The Album that has eluded me for over 30 years. (SUN) and Yes I called coach before I wrote the review. What a Great Day!
Thank You Amazon!
Come flick my bic... November 19, 2005 In '76, I danced to "Wanna make love (come flick my bic)" as a 17-year-old. Twenty-five years later (2001), I got lucky and scored a copy. Sun was a good band with a tight sound. Get a copy at a good price and check them out for yourself! Four stars!
Sun's Greatest Hits August 6, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I finally found some old favorites like "I had a choice" and "Wanna make love". The other songs like "Sun is Here" are still party songs, but overall this is a nice CD for anyone who was in their teens in the 70's.
