Best of the Coasters April 21, 2008 The Coasters are kind of hard to pin down when it comes to genre--they didn't seem to want to get stereotyped as just another '50's & '60's "doo-wop" group. "Charley Brown", "Young Blood" (later re-done by Leon Russell) and "Little Egypt" just a few of their more well-known songs. Only one I wasn't personally crazy about was "One Foot Draggin'"- otherwise the best collection for the money.
NOT the Coasters. May 30, 2006 Listen to the clips. They are not the originals. "Hollywood Records" did the same thing to The Drifters. Don't buy.
These are NOT the original versions. January 31, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Buyer beware. You can find a better and more comprehensive collection of Coasters tunes in "50 Coastin' Classics". Do not buy this version by Onyx! These are re-recordings.
Ignore the disparaging review below... April 6, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The product for sale with this barcode/item number are very much the original recordings, as originally appeared on Atlantic...Classic material, each and every one...Be very careful as there are many terrible re-recordings of this material from many different sources...Make sure the item being offered from used sellers matches the above barcode listed by Amazon...
Not the orginal tracks March 2, 2001 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
The buyer should be aware that these are not the original recordings of the Coasters' greatest hits. This album was digitally recorded in 1996 by a group of long-in-the-tooth, possibly replacement Coasters. The songs lack some of the punch of the originals. However, I bought the record for my daughter, who was a big fan of their songs "Charlie Brown" and "Poison Ivy." as I wanted her to also experience such gems as "Yakety Yak" and "Along Came Jones." The record did serve that purpose admirably, and who can argue with the price?
